He is currently the gardens manager at The Hermitage, home of the late President Andrew Jackson near Nashville, Tennessee.

Peter Fossel has farmed for thirty years, organically for twenty. He was editor of Country Journal magazine for years and has written for numerous other magazines, including Horticulture, Organic Gardening, American Heritage, and the Tractor Supply quarterly journal, Out Here.
