Grade 7-10-These books are devoted not so much to the title artists as to their principal European contemporaries, including the development of their styles and their techniques. The artistic phenomena that preceded the periods as well as major developments in Europe and elsewhere, for example, in China (Michelangelo) and in Japan (Renoir), are discussed as well. The texts require readers to have some background on techniques and historical subject matter. While there are numerous series about the great masters, these books are valuable for their presentation of art developments around the world during these notable periods. The books are replete with full-color, average-quality reproductions of representative works, often two to a page. Both will appeal to art students and provide material for reports.
