When Jimmy's moment of stardom comes, he's illuminated by multiple flashlights that mimic the beaming face of his father in the audience. The author and illustrator present a cuddly, single-parent household whose interactions warm every scene. White-bordered cartoon settings often contain cheery background details such as Dad's search for his flashlight and the family cat's startled reaction when the telephone rings. Early readers will be comfortable with the pace and vocabulary of this story, which makes use of repetition and alliteration.
