Step-by-step examples show how to create three real-world projects, each designed to illustrate important aspects of the development system's flexibility. Author Donald Doherty's goal is to go beyond the basic Visual C++ documentation to creatively exploit the integrated development environment (IDE) and component architectures.
The book begins with an overview of the Internet, VBScript, and JScript and explains how the Visual C++ IDE interfaces with the Web. Next, the text walks you through Quickbrowse, a custom Web-browser application that illustrates how to use components in Internet Explorer and work with the Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC) AppWizard. In the Logomagic project, you'll learn how to create ActiveX controls and dive a bit into the Component Object Model. In the final project, you'll create an enterprise message-posting system in two parts: a client-side ActiveX component and a server-side message-handling application. You'll learn about the Active Template Library, DCOM, and how to use the ActiveX control you build in a Visual Basic application.
