Synopsis

Help your students communicate with others of diverse cultural backgrounds with Intercultural Communication, Second Edition, a comprehensive, clearly organized text designed to help students build effective communication skills. This new edition retains its classic coverage of intercultural communication while updating and expanding its coverage of gender and culture. New to this edition is a representation of perspectives from a variety of cultures, new examples and updated references, as well as numerous valuable web-site resources. This easy-to-read volume covers a wide range of material including a historical framework to view the development of current topics; an integration of media as a variable in the advancement of issues and ideas; and illustrative material such as vignettes, quotes, cases, and stories to keep the student's attention and provoke thought while challenging existing viewpoints. It walks the student through the key concepts of communication and culture with chapters on such topics as barriers in intercultural communication; dimensions of culture; multiculturalism; women, family, and children; and culture's influence on perception. The ideal text for undergraduate courses in intercultural communication, Intercultural Communication can also be used across the curriculum for courses on multiculturalism and diversity.
