Reviews

Sewing a tablecloth, a cushion, or a curtain is not all that difficult, claims Hemingway. What's more, she has made stitchers' selections--and instructions--far easier than following a store-bought pattern. With much enlarged print, well-photographed step-by-step directions, and plenty of tips and encouragement, this compilation is hard to top in terms of plain, easily understood and replicated patterns. The more than 150 projects, naturally, stick closely to mass market when it comes to project type and design. Expect a variety of different shades and curtains (even paint-it-yourself plastic for the shower), pillows, and furniture covers. Projects and techniques have been divided into beginner, intermediate, and more experienced categories, making any reader's selection far easier to digest. Barbara Jacobs
