"For a trip even further back into history--150 million years further back--visit Picket Wire Canyonlands in Comanche National Grasslands. As you follow along, the relics of abandoned adobe houses, a church, a graveyard, and ranch buildings hold up against the dry climate. Using a bike you can zip along the dusty road and catch glimpses of the current inhabitants: a coyote, kestrels, orioles. Right next to the river, you come to a shelf of limestone that looks like someone mucked around in it while wet. You may have to clean the dirt and sand out to determine that these are truly dinosaur tracks."
