K-Gr 2-As part of a first science series, these titles contain a limited amount of information. Their design is attractive with full-color photos accompanying the brief, large-print texts. Some facts are stated, but the why is left unexplained. Vocabulary is appropriate for the audience and unfamiliar terms are printed in boldface and defined in the simple glossaries. However, some definitions are so simplified that they become vague. The photographs of the growing plants are good, but those that feature children and adults eating or working are staged. Both books end somewhat abruptly. Additional purchases.-Eldon Younce, Harper Elementary School, KS
