Jenny Koralek and Mandy Sutcliffe evoke the feelings of comfort and safety that come from being on the road to a very special place-and of knowing you are loved, both going and coming.
Amy loves the night ride to her grandmother's house. She loves all the sounds and smells and sights along the way—her parents singing in the car, the aroma of roasting chestnuts at the downtown market, and the bridge lit up against the night sky. But more than anything, she loves arriving at Nanna's house. For though this means the ride is over, Amy's visit is just beginning.

Jenny Koralek says, "I was inspired to write NIGHT RIDE TO NANNA'S after my two small grandchildren came to stay with us, having traveled across the city and the river in the night to our house. I believe every child in the world is entitled to such an experience—to travel from one safe, known, loved place to another."
Mandy Sutcliffe says, "I wanted my paintings to convey the warmth the words hold for me. As I worked, I remembered childhood journeys—the cozy feeling of sitting in the back seat watching the world go by."
Ages 2-5. Waddell, author of the Big Bear and Little Bear stories, has concocted a bedtime book that will appeal to young children's love of ritual. The colored pencil illustrations show a contemporary home, filled with the cozy confusion of toys, books, and children: toddler Joe, and two older siblings. Joe's bedtime ritual includes the search for his teddy bear, who could be anywhere--on an island with bears, at a fun fair, up in a tree. Of course, Joe can't go to bed until Cuddly Bear is found, and the whole family becomes involved in speculating about the teddy bear's whereabouts. The illustrations place crowds of teddy bears in humorously fantastic locations, until Joe decides his teddy bear is actually getting ready for bed, and, at last, follows suit and finds Cuddly Bear under his pillow. Part of the charm of this book is that it leaves lots of rooms for parents and children to come up with their own ideas about the teddy bear's adventures, and incorporate the stories into their own bedtime rituals.
