Reviews

PreSchool-Grade 2—This book is slightly larger than most board books, but its simple text makes it a good choice for emerging readers as well as preschoolers. A Caucasian boy and a black girl wiggle, twist, and twirl to the bakery, through a park, and to the pet store to purchase a cake and gifts on their way to a party. The rhyming verses and bouncy pictures encourage readers to "Shake,/shake,/shake it,/baby!/Come and dance with me!" The smiling children and the people they meet bop and shimmy along with the beat, although the story told in the pictures is unrelated to the text and appears to be entirely the illustrator's interpretation. Purchase as needed.—Martha Simpson, Stratford Library Association, CT
