    Intended for the nonprofessional, this reference source presents illustrations of the various regions of the human body. It begins by covering "Surface Anatomy" as well as "Skin and Nails." The succeeding sections treat body systems, including skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory, nervous, reproductive, and more. All of the illustrations are by Dr. Frank H. Netter, whose illustrations also appear in the 13-volume Netter Collection of Medical Illustrations. Another text featuring Netter's work is the Netter Atlas of Human Anatomy (Elsevier, 2003), intended for the medical professional, which was first published in 1989 and is now in its third edition.

    The large and detailed illustrations that appear on every page are anatomically correct, full color, and clearly labeled. In addition, each two-page spread includes supplementary text provided by Harvard Health Publications. The text explains concepts clearly and would be appropriate for a high-school student or a general reader. Within the text, highlighted topics appear in orange. The book concludes with a short list of references and a brief biography of Netter. It also includes a comprehensive, nine-page index. This would be a welcome addition to public and high-school libraries. Though simple enough for the lay reader, it would also be a useful resource for students in the health sciences. Maren Ostergard
