About the Author

D. F. Scott has one of the longest running bylines in the history of computing journalism, having inaugurated his first programming column in 1984. For more than two decades, Scott has made significant contributions to the way people work. His published analyses and tutorials date back to when the 6502 was a popular processor, and when hard disk drives were referred to as "Winchesters." Scott's articles on programming and new technologies have appeared in such prominent publications as Computer Shopper, and Computer Monthly, as well as in one of the 1980's most prolific journals for computer enthusiasts, ANALOG Computing. One of the world's first online moderators, Scott co-founded the Computer Shopper Information Exchange in 1987, which was among the first to publish electronic articles from a major magazine publisher for public download, and only the second (after Byte) to publish original articles with the publisher's brand name and staff. Today, Scott continues to diligently work to extend, revise, and perfect the systems with which the world disseminates digital information.
