Known for his excellence in teaching, Robert J. Carbaugh is Professor of Economics at Central Washington University. He has been lauded with top teaching awards that include the 1984 Excellence in Teaching award at University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire; and the Distinguished Professor of the University award at Central Washington University in 1993. In 1996, Professor Carbaugh was named the Scholar of the year by the Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Society at Central Washington University. With a Ph.D. in economics from Colorado State University, Professor Carbaugh specializes in economic theory, industrial organization, and international trade and finance. For over 25 years, Professor Carbaugh has taught these subjects, as well as managerial economics, money and banking, and both introductory and intermediate levels of microeconomics and macroeconomics. His cogent and lively teaching style makes his courses highly popular at Central Washington University. Professor Carbaugh has served as an editorial consultant for many publishing companies, including McGraw Hill, Inc.; John Wiley, Inc.; Addison-Wesley, Inc.; Random House, Inc.; Prentice-Hall, Inc.; Wadsworth Publishers; W.W. Norton and Co.; and Harper and Row Publishers. He has also authored and co-authored numerous articles for prestigious publications such as International Review of Economics and Business, World Competition: Law and Economics Review, The International Trade Journal, The Quarterly Journal of Business and Economics, Challenge: The Magazine of Economic Affairs, and The Journal of Asian Economics. He has presented papers at professional meetings, including the Midwest Economics Association and the Western Economics Association. Professor Carbaugh is also well known for his distinguished textbooks, International Economics (South-Western Publishing), now in its 8th edition, and Contemporary Economics, 1st edition.
