From Booklist:
Like other books in the Drug Dangers series, this title on steroid use combines anecdotal information (all footnoted) with lots of facts and statistics. The format is colorful and features boxed lists of information and bright red subject headings that help readers focus on key points. Among the topics covered are the purpose and effects of legal and illegal steroids, the drugs' dangers, and programs that fight steroid use. A list of organizations that offer help is also included. Despite some clunky sentences, the book is clearly written. The color photos, though attractive, are often only peripherally pertinent to the topic. For instance, a picture of a father, mother, and child is captioned, "A strong family like this one can help if a family member has a problem to overcome." With steroid use particularly rampant among young men, this should find a place in both public library YA collections and school libraries. See the Series Roundup, this issue, for books on crack and heroin. Bibliography appended. Ilene Cooper
