Synopsis
Mark Hofmann had been working as a document dealer for years, selling rare documents to the Mormon Church. In 1985, some people began to doubt the authenticity of the documents. Further inspection by forensic experts proved that Hofmann had been artificially aging the documents with a chemical solution. Hofmann s illegal business was over, and he was sent to prison for his crimes, which even included murder!
The real-life crime stories in this book are followed by science experiments and project ideas that highlight the forensic technique used to solve the crime. How can you identify false documents? Do inks, paper, and computer printers help identify forged documents? Can you do a handwriting analysis to find out if a signature is real? About the Author
Kenneth G. Rainis is a microbiologist, illustrator, and microscopist, as well as a cofounder of Neo/Sci Corporation, a science education company in New York. He has a B.S. in biology and an M.S. in protozoology. He is the author of numerous science project books, and is a contributor for biology textbooks. He lives in New York with his wife and two children.
