Grade 4-6--A credible title about an amazing adventure. Matsen presents a brief description of the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora deAtocha, her short life transporting treasure, her demise during a hurricane in 1622, and her discovery more than 360 years later. This is also the story of Mel Fisher's 16-year quest for the remains of the sunken ship and her cargo. Diving equipment, procedures, and recovery methods are clearly introduced, and the method of financing the venture by means of acquiring investors is simply but adequately explained. With blue shading along the top of each page, the layout is attractive and open. The colorful illustrations include numerous underwater photos, period reproductions, and a map.
