Almquist (an automotive engineer and himself a hot-rodder) profiles approximately 200 hot rod innovators, and tells the story of the sport. The book traces its history from the sport's golden age following World War II through its popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, to the gas crisis lull of the 1970s, and on to the present. Numerous black and white photographs are prominently featured. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Ed Almquist wrote the world's first widely circulated hot rod how-to manual in 1946 and became the mail order icon of hot rodding from the 1940s through the 1960s. Today, many of Almquist's inventions - such as Sparkomatic plugs, floor shifters, and wear-proofing lubricants - are still in use on both road and track.
"...Spotlights the motorsports world and the innovations that improved the...performance of the cars that you and I drive today." -- "Big Daddy" Don Garlits
