Gr 4-8-This is more an oversized pictorial history than an atlas, but as such it is remarkably good. Double-page spreads cover historical eras as well as aspects of life in ancient Egypt. The text per spread consists of an introductory paragraph, smaller print paragraphs of information under separate subheadings, and lengthy captions. The numerous, full-color illustrations include photographs of artifacts and artists' renderings depicting activities such as mummification and ships sailing. The excellent photographs show great detail and are likely to fascinate browsers. Many spreads have maps that accurately illustrate the subject and Egypt's relationship to the rest of the world. The book is similar in many ways to George Hart's Ancient Egypt (DK, 2000). However, the organization in Atlas is better. A useful volume for both school and public libraries where there is a demand for more information on the topic.-Carol Durusau, Newton County Public Library, Covington, GA
