Ledson, founder of an early learning school in Toronto, became interested in home education when his daughters were toddlers. His premise is that human intelligence is alterable, and that parents, by following a continuous program of instruction, can equip children with a better functioning brain. He gives commonsense directions for teaching both various subjects and reasoning, and recommends training baby sitters to supplement parental instruction. Although he is primarily concerned with intellectual development, he stresses the importance of teaching social skills as well. The lessons are designed to be flexible and enjoyable for both parent and child. Invaluable for parents and for preschool and day care personnel. Shirley L.
