The Bermuda Triangle has long been a staple of series books, and young middle-graders will be caught up in this exploration of the mystery of why planes went down and why crews of ships disappeared. The glossy pages offer various examples of odd things happening in the area of the Atlantic Ocean between Bermuda, Miami, and Puerto Rico, starting with strange events that occurred during the voyages of Christopher Columbus, as penned by the explorer himself. But throughout, alternative explanations are also given, and by the end of the book, many readers will see the logic behind weather or waterspouts or excess gas being the reason for ships and planes vanishing as much as electromagnetic fields from Atlantis or aliens. Short text and a multitude of photographs set against digitally enhanced backgrounds will intrigue reluctant readers and draw them to this title in the Unsolved! series. Grades 3-5. --Ilene Cooper
