From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 1-This is the story of a young, two-headed, baseball-playing monster named Rob and Bob Headley. When their team plays a doubleheader with the Frankees (Frankenstein look-alikes), Rob and Bob have a chance to win the game in the ninth inning. They are tagged out, however, because they try to run in opposite directions. After a period of being angry with each other, they make up and attend the Fright Night at the local theater. (The movies showing are Human Beings and Human Beings II). Some of the story's humor will need to be explained to the intended audience. Nevertheless, Smath's clever, colorful, comical illustrations will be enjoyed and will encourage some original drawings of other monster sports players. Sentences are short and to the point, with only slight variations in form. Standard fare for beginning readers.

From Booklist

Gr. 1. This is a very funny story in which the simplicity and repetition are part of the action. Bob and Rob are monsters, joined together in one body with two heads. "We are stuck with each other," they say. Having two heads is great for looking both ways when they cross the street and for singing duets, and it's great for playing baseball, since they can keep two eyes on the ball and two eyes on the bases. The trouble comes when they disagree: They run both ways at once and don't get anywhere. But they make up and are off to see a double feature at the movies. The cartoons in garish colors pick up the exaggeration, the wordplay, and the farce. Hazel Rochman
