From Booklist:
As part of the Moments in History series, this provides a brief survey of early exploration from A.D. 987 to 1542, focusing on the explorers who set out to discover new lands. Some, such as the Vikings, Columbus, Cabeza de Vaca, and Coronado, are discussed in full chapters; others, including Cortez and Cartier, are given only a paragraph. In spite of this unequal treatment, students who read the book from cover to cover will still get a sense of the progression of exploration. Black-and-white drawings, a time line, and a glossary are provided, but blatantly lacking are maps tracing the routes of the explorers. Best used with other materials as backup. Helen Rosenberg
