Grade 1-2-This title revolves around a habit that many children (and adults) share: procrastination. Rick's map project is due in one week. When his mother asks if he has worked on it, he replies, "I'll do it later." As each day passes, something more fun pushes the project into the future. When the boy wakes up on the dreaded due date without having completed his project, he is in for a surprise: it snowed during the night and school has been canceled. Rick, however, has learned that postponing things too long can be very bothersome, and he completes the map before enjoying his unexpected day off. Beginning readers will identify with the realistic plot and Rick's behavior. The brightly colored photographs set against stark white backgrounds show an engaging boy as he whiles away the days. The book concludes with phonics guidelines for adults who want to help children reinforce their reading skills.
