It's hard to imagine that Microsoft Excel could be a source for comedy, but Jones proves to be quite humorous in his Murphy's Laws of Excel. In five sections, Jones starts off right with the basics in "A peek beneath the sheets" and takes you through formulas, presentations, macros, and exporting (all identified by suitably ridiculous titles). The breezy style of this book is aimed at DOS and Windows users of Excel, although Mac conventions are noted with a cartoon icon throughout the text. Illustrations and commands are clear and easy to read. The instructions are flawless, although after a while, you'll certainly tire of all of the verbal jabs and silly puns. In the end, you'll agree that Murphy's Laws of Excel proves one of the author's own rewordings of Murphy's Law: "Those who can do. Those who can't teach. Those who write computer books must come from another planet."
