So maybe you don't care too much about creating new worlds to conquer in Quake II; you just want to make it through the basic maps intact. No problem. With this thorough guide in hand, you should be eliminating Strogg in no time.
The first portion of the book covers all of the basic information you'll need to wage an effective campaign against the aliens. Official Quake II Strategies and Secrets describes all eight units of the game in detail, along with the various creatures you can expect to encounter and the weapons you'll get to use against them. Tips for staying healthy and finding secret areas are littered throughout the book, with screen shots to illustrate key points. And when you're done wiping out that alien scum, turn to the excellent multiplayer section--written with help from deathmatch virtuoso Thresh--to get some tips on staying alive against human opponents. Thresh explains how to perform critical deathmatch maneuvers, such as the circle strafe and rocket jump, and talks about special tactics, such as how to fight an enemy who's holding quad damage. All in all, this is essential reading for any serious Quake II player.
