Reviews

PreSchool-Grade 1-An attractive and easy-to-comprehend concept book with a lot of child appeal. From bath water to ocean water, it provides a broad introduction to the subject in a question-and-answer format. Basic science is presented in simple language: water always flows downhill, a duck's feathers are covered with oil, evaporation occurs when water changes into invisible tiny drops called water vapor, all living things need water. The questions will appeal to small children, and the answers are short and to the point with no more detail than necessary. The large, colorful cartoons feature a small blond boy, a dark-skinned girl, and a frisky dog, with help from a talkative frog and a toy scuba diver. The book would be a good lead-in to Arthur Dorros's Follow the Water from Brook to Ocean (HarperCollins, 1991) and Joanna Cole's The Magic Schoolbus at the Waterworks (Scholastic, 1986).
