From Library Journal

This is the second of eight installments of Jakes's "Kent Family Chronicles," a very popular series about the American Revolution written in the 1970s. The story revolves around newly married Philip Kent, a 22-year-old printer from Massachusetts who is serving in the American colonial forces. He is contrasted with Judson Fletcher of Virginia, a dissolute, wealthy tobacco planter's son. Author Jakes spruces up the narrative with vivid battle accounts as well as descriptions of the hardships of soldiers and civilians. The story is narrated by John Maurice, who reads distinctly and very slowly. Public libraries should consider purchasing if the series is still popular with their patrons.
