Christian pastor and radio teacher MacArthur selected 52 Bible verses for listeners to study and memorize each week during a one-year period. The four CDs are accompanied by business card printings of the verses, and the idea is that memorization will keep these passages in the heart like a musician keeps songs in his repertoire. MacArthur is a clear, confident speaker and a comfortable, earnest teacher of God's Word. The listeners who will most appreciate these compact lessons are those who believe God reigns with omnipotence, judges nonbelievers harshly, and offers salvation from sinful ways only if we accept the love of His Son, who suffered and died for those sins. The centerpiece of The McArthur Scripture Memory System is the audio CD’s. On these CD’s you will hear John MacArthur recite each passage, and then provide a brief commentary on the significance of the passage. You can listen to the audio anywhere you have access to a CD player. We recommend listening to it in your car while driving to work. You could also listen while exercising, cooking, or even working. The length of each audio segment ranges from 3–5 minutes. When the audio is finished, we encourage you to listen to the segment over again, as many times as possible. There is one track of audio for each week of the program. After listening to the segment several times, spend some time meditating on the passage and explanation from Dr. MacArthur. You might want to ask yourself the following questions: § What does this passage teach me about Jesus Christ? § Does this passage contain any command for me to obey? § Is there any promise for me to claim? § Is there any instruction for me to follow? Not all of the questions can be answered for every passage. Memorizing for memorization sake won’t do anyone any good, but if you make the passage real, and applicable to your life, then you will be equipped to use the passage when you need it. Finally, be sure to keep the audio CD’s readily accessible. If you can, it is a good idea to listen to each audio segment several times each day. If you listened to the audio driving into work, listen again on the way home! By the end of the week, you will probably even have Dr. MacArthur’s thoughts memorized!
