In proportion to the population of the colonies in 1776, it had the largest sale and circulation of any book ever published in American history. Paine, a brilliant man, structured Common Sense as if it were a sermon and reasoned in a style that common people understood.

About the Author
A brilliant thinker with the heart of a rebel, Thomas Paine migrated to the colonies with the help of Benjamin Franklin just before the revolution. Although remembered primarily for writing the most provoking pamphlet of the American Revolution, Paine was also a political activist, philosopher, and writer in 18th America century.
