L'Assommoir est un roman d' Emile Zola publié sous forme de série à partir de 1876 dans Le Bien public , puis des Lettres La République, avant d'être publié sous forme de livre en 1877 sous la direction de Georges Charpentier . Il est le septième volume de la série Les Rougon - Macquart . Il est totalement consacré au monde du travail et, selon Zola dans la préface , «le premier roman sur les gens qui ne peuvent pas mentir et qui a l'odeur de personnes " travail. L'auteur reconstruit la langue et les mœurs des travailleurs , tout cela , tout en décrivant les ravages de la pauvreté et l'alcoolisme. Au moment de son apparition, le jeu a provoqué un vif débat parce qu'il a été considéré comme trop brut. Mais il est précisément ce réalisme qui, cependant, provoque un succès , assurant l'auteur fortune et célébrité.

Émile Zola (1840-1902) was the leading figure in the French school of naturalistic fiction. His principal work, Les Rougon-Macquart, is a panorama of mid-19th century French life, in a cycle of 20 novels which Zola wrote over a period of 22 years.
