When Jennifer Holt's ex-husband, a member of an extremist Muslim terrorist group, kidnaps their daughter and takes her to Algeria, Jennifer has no legal means to retrieve her. She hires mercenary Matt Blackburn to get her daughter back with one proviso: Jennifer goes with him. Matt knows without a doubt that Jennifer has no business accompanying him on such a dangerous mission. However, the little girl has diabetes, and because Jennifer is a nurse, Matt gives in. He soon finds himself softening his attitude toward the courageous mother, which is not a good thing for a professional soldier to do. Readers of Betty Mahmoody's Not Without My Daughter (1987) are a potential audience of this book, where the bad guys are very bad and the good guys are very good. And the traumatic events of 9/11 make Rold's thriller romance timely and relevant, but for that very reason it may disturb some readers. Shelley Mosley
