Richard L. Matteson Jr. is nationally recognized for his books, magazine articles and workshops on classical and fingerstyle guitar. He is president of the Piedmont Classic Guitar Society and has given workshops and performances at the Merle Watson Memorial Festival in Wilkesboro, North Carolina, and the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society Convention in Nashville. Matteson was commissioned by the Hendersonville Symphony to write two pieces for classic guitar and strings that were premiered in 1994. His string quartets and string quartet and guitar piece were performed in the 1991 PCGS Concert Series. An active performer, Richard resides in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he directs guitar studies at Winston-Salem State University. He is also a full-time music teacher at Pearson Music Co. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
