The Manth people are at last free to seek their promised land, led by Bowman and Kestrel's mother, a prophetess. But the journey is long and hard, filled with many dangers, enemies, distractions, and temptations. And each of the travelers is preoccupied with his or her own worries. Bowman is torn between his attraction to Sisi, a former princess, and what he believes is his destiny-to sacrifice himself for the good of the people. Kestrel also feels a pull toward a mission, toward something-but for some reason, she cannot envision her life beyond the journey. "Again Nicholson uses his screenwriting skills to produce a lively, fast-moving adventure."-VOYA William Nicholson worked for the BBC as the director/producer of more than forty documentary films and has written screenplays for such feature films as Gladiator, Shadowlands,Sarafinal, Nell, and First Knight. Mr. Nicholson lives with his family in England.

About the Author:
William Nicholson was born in 1948 and received his early education at Downside School, a Roman Catholic monastic school set in the countryside near Bath. He went on to study English Literature at Christ's College, Cambridge, graduating with a double First Class degree in 1970. After leaving university, William joined BBC television, where he worked as a documentary film maker. It was not long before William's talent was channelled into writing for television dramas and his professional writing career took off. William is perhaps best known as an experienced and successful Hollywood screenwriter, whose credits include the BAFTA award-winning SHADOWLANDS and Oscar-winning GLADIATOR. Nicholson's first trilogy for young readers, The Wind on Fire, met with universal acclaim. Nicholson has won the Smarties Gold Award and the Blue Peter Book Award. He has been cited as one of the most gifted and imaginative writers alive in the world today. William lives in Sussex with his wife Virginia, and their three children.
From AudioFile:
Begun with THE WIND SINGER and followed by SLAVES OF THE MASTERY, The Wind on Fire trilogy now follows the twins, Bowman and Kestrel, the Hath family, and the ragtag remnants of the people of Manth as they make their long journey in search of home and safety. As they march, Bowman prepares to sacrifice himself for his people, something he believes is his destiny. Narrator Samuel West's quiet authority gives depth to the twins' deep empathic connection and invests even minor characters with emotional lives. West handles frequent shifts in points of view, moments of magic, and political intrigues in a performance filled with nuance and subtlety. For maximum enjoyment in the fantasy world of Amaranth, listen to the first two installments before FIRESONG. S.J.H. © AudioFile 2004, Portland, Maine-- Copyright © AudioFile, Portland, Maine
