From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 3-This enticing collection of 21 poems is divided into four sections: fruit; ice cream; cookies, candy, and cake; and snacks. The selections are largely by well-known poets, including Jack Prelutsky, Karla Kuskin, Eve Merriam, and X. J. Kennedy, and two by Goldstein herself. All of the lighthearted compositions are rhymed, with the exception of Michael Spooner's lovely free-verse offering, "A Moon in Your Lunch Box." Humorous black-and-white pictures of children, many with their tongues hanging out in anticipation of these treats, complement the text. While these poems can be found elsewhere, the appeal of this book is its accessibility to beginning readers. It also makes a nice companion volume to Goldstein's What's on the Menu? (Viking, 1992).
