Does your husband always seem to miss the point of what you're saying? Do you feel that your wife never listens when you're trying to say something important? Do the two of you have the same old arguments over and over again? In this book, the authors, who are professional communication experts, reveal an important breakthrough method for improving communication in relationships. This system was developed out of Foster's overwhelmingly successful interview technique, which is professionally regarded as one of the best methods of communicating, interacting with people, and getting them to reveal their essential nature.

Foster is a well-known interview consultant who instructs the FBI, the U.S. State Department, and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in professional interview techniques. He also has lectured to professional bodies of judges, trial attorneys, psychiatrists, and psychologists.
Marshall is an attorney with an extensive background in family and matrimonial law. She has been instrumental in broadening the Foster Method into the field of interpersonal relations.
Former police officer Foster is now an interview consultant for the FBI, the U.S. State Department and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Here, writing with attorney Marshall, he presents the "Foster Method," his innovative technique for effective communication. Through practice of the "3 R's" (read, respond, reciprocate), the authors show how to recognize four personality types--Feeler, Driver, Analyzer and Elitist--and how to "get through" to each. Also included is interesting--and sometimes frightening--information on reading physical cues. For example, claim the authors, someone with "three whites of the eyes" is almost always suffering from great stress; and, as with Pinocchio, rubbing or pulling the nose is a signal of dishonesty. Some will find this neat pigeonholing of people into four, basically negative "types" to be based on a grim view of humanity that does not allow for individual differences. This is an eye-opening, accessible, and informative book on augmenting family communication. Foster, a former polygraph examiner, and Marshall, a lawyer specializing in family law, draw upon the now-classic works of Desmond Morris, Edward Hall, Carl Jung, Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, Katherine Briggs, and Isabel Briggs Myers. Successfully synthesizing these sources, the authors demonstrate how one can identify differences in order to foster better communication through their technique of read, respond, and reciprocate. Recommended for self-help collections on marriage and family enrichment.
