Dr. Robert Ivker was a very successful family-practice physician who, at 40, decided to go a different direction in his life. He developed his philosophy of Thriving--which says that there's a difference between being functionally capable and really being physically and emotionally sound--while finding a holistic solution to his chronic sinusitis. The first half of this book combines a lot of ideas, from accepted precepts about physical fitness and mind-body interactions to somewhat less proven nutritional suggestions to Eastern medicine, tossed into a vast self-improvement stew for men. The second half of the book describes holistic treatments for males' most prevalent medical problems. The book is mostly addressed to men on the cusp of middle age who've ignored their bodies and emotions, but somewhat healthier individuals may still get some inspiration from it.
