A stirring photographic tribute to the World Trade Center towers, which were the icons of the New York City skyline.
Rising dramatically above all other skyscrapers at the tip of Manhattan, the World Trade Center symbolized New York. From any direction the Towers were lodestars, Manhattan's local mountains. Nearly a decade after the dark events of 9/11, New Yorkers continue to come to terms with the tragedy, and to reminisce about the views of the Towers they once had from their homes and offices. Visitors, too, are remembering how the WTC looked as they approached Manhattan by car, plane, or from the water. As we mourn for the terrible loss of life, we also want to remember. The 72 images of the World Trade Center presented in this book depict a New York we once knew, one we are now working to rebuild."synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.
Sonja Bullaty was a photographer noted for lyrical composition and startling use of color and light in a vast body of work created during a five-decade collaboration with her husband, Angelo Lomeo. Their photographs appeared in Life, Time and Audubon magazines and have been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the International Center of Photography and George Eastman House in Rochester.
Angelo Lomeo was born in New York City. He studied industrial art but soon turned to photography full time. He has traveled widely on assignment, in this country and abroad. His personal photography often involves the themes of the Human Presence in Nature, The Use of the Land, The Transience of Things, The Perfection of Nature's Design, and Abstraction.
New Yorker writer Paul Goldberger lives in New York City.
This book pays tribute to the New York City skyline as it was graced by the World Trade Center before September 11. With accompanying text by Paul Goldberger, architecture critic for the New Yorker, this album of photographs by Sonja Bullaty and Angelo Lomeo, veteran Abbeville photographers who have been photographing the building for two decades, gathers beautiful images of the twin towers from every angle imaginable, from studies of architectural details to distance shots taken from the harbor. The Trade Center appears here like a fashion model, in love with the camera and eager to show off every svelte line. Brad Hooper
