Sports fans are numbers junkies; the more the merrier. What makes The Ultimate Book of Sports Lists so much fun is not just the traditional lists it includes--all-time home run leaders, career leaders in free throws, most goals in a season--but its variations on the themes and its willingness to get weird. The lists are exhaustive, informational, creatively clever, and graphically appealing. Between the book's covers, you'll find such ephemera as the highest-paid football players, the values of individual sports franchises, top-grossing sports movies, America's top jock schools, and most popular participation sports. All sports are present and accounted for, some naturally deeper than others, with the kinds of statistics that not only amaze friends and win bar bets, but can keep you up all night flipping pages.

The result is not the all-inclusive book to consult when looking for obscure sports records or trivia, as year-by-year records are not included. But you will find some unique material (e.g., "most precocious tennis champion"), extensive coverage of women's sports, and a section of miscellaneous information not found in other sports references. The material is organized by sport, with particularly strong coverage of the major sports (baseball, football, and basketball).
