The selections are framed by two brief chapters that provide background information about Shahrazad and Arabian society. The print is large and easy to read, and the lovely color illustrations have an Asian flavor that suits the stories nicely. Small, captioned color photos and reproductions provide background information about particular plot elements, e.g., holy man, Persian armor, sesame. Though the narratives are adequate, they lack drama or suspense and do little justice to the magical tales.
