Carlo Collodi is the pseudonym of Carlo Lorenzini (1826-90). Born in Florence, Collodi was deeply devoted to Italy becoming a nation. He wrote prolifically as a journalist and satirist, not turning to children's literature until late in life, when he was commissioned to translate Perrault's fairy tales from French to Italian. First serialized in a children's newspaper, The Adventures of Pinocchio was published as a book in 1883 and was an instant success. Jane Fior was educated in her native England and elsewhere. she specializes in writing children's picture books and has translated Pinocchio from the Italian. This lively adaptation of Pinocchio reflects the wit and wisdom of the original tale. Simon Bartram was born in England and received a degree in Illustration in 1990. His stylized artwork captures the fantasy quality of Pinocchio.
