Review

Windows 95 Quick Reference gives a very basic overview of most of the operating system, organized by task. Brief sections cover everything from using the Registry Editor and printing services to using file manager and performing a variety of file management tasks. Sections even teach you to use the ancillary applications that come with Windows 95, such as the Paint program and Network configuration utilities.

The guide features a very plain description of a task or configuration option, along with the details of how to get it done. You won't find a vast repository of tips and tricks nor an extended tutorial that narrows in on the intricacies of a process. Instead, it focuses on providing a reasonably comprehensive, task-oriented guide to the entire package. Typical usage: look up a task in the index, for example, "how to assign a sound to a system event," find out how it's done, and do it.
