Durante otros 17 perteneció al cuerpo médico del Hospital Infantil de Los Angeles en la sección de Desarrollo Infantil y Medicina genética.
Fue elegido por los Presidentes Jimmy Carter y Ronald Reagan como consejero de temas familiares y de la juventud, en el programa de la Comisión para la Justicia Juvenil y la Prevención de la Delincuencia.
Asimismo ha participado en la Comisión Judicial General de Pornografía y la Junta de Niños Perdidos y Explotados.
Está casado y es padre de dos hijos.

He is seen on 80 television stations daily in the U.S. A licensed psychologist and licensed marriage, family, and child counselor, he is a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and is listed in Who s Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
For 14 years Dr. Dobson was an associate clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, and he served for 17 years on the attending staff of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in the Division of Child Development and Medical Genetics. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California (1967) in the field of child development.
The author of 33 books, including his most recent best seller, Bringing Up Boys, he has been heavily involved in governmental activities related to the family.
Dr. Dobson is married to Shirley and is the father of two grown children, Danae and Ryan. He resides in Colorado.
