Grade 6-9 A broad overview of the experience of the Jewish people in America. The opening chapter briefly covers 5,000 years of Jewish history to provide a context for understanding the waves of immigration to America. A subject organization highlights the contributions of many famous American Jewish people to such fields as law, politics, finance, creative arts. While not as in depth as Milton Meltzer's Taking Root: Jewish Immigrants in American (Farrar, 1976) , this gives good, basic information in a readily - accessible format. The bibliography may lead interested students to read further. The book is well indexed, and clear plentiful photographs enhance the text. Micki S. Nevett, Temple Beth Emeth Library, Albany, N.Y.
