Gr 10 Up--A disturbing series addition that delves into the dark, convoluted cosmos of serial killers. Dolan's dispassionate text introduces readers to the horrific "work" of a number of murderers, to the backgrounds and incidents that seem to contribute to the evolution of these homicidal aberrants, their development into killers, and the efforts by law enforcement departments to bring them to justice. Understandably, this is not a pretty book; nor is it easy to read without a chilling sensation up the spine and/or mental squirming at the images conjured up by the descriptions of the mental states of these people and the results of their handiwork. Mutilation, sexual aberration, ritual ingestion of body parts, and histories of abuse do not lend themselves to comfortable reading. However, the author's composed prose makes the best of a revolting business.
