Other topics discussed include sports and leisure, culture, festivals and religion, food and shopping, landscape and climate, plants and animals, cities and landmarks, industry and agriculture, transportation, history, and government. Inside covers are filled with expressions and slang terms kids will surely enjoy (couch potato, hang loose, take a hike). This well-designed title has large print and 30 excellent-quality color photos. However, on the map, only 20 states are labeled, along with some major cities, the Great Lakes, and a few mountains and rivers. While the information will be familiar to most elementary-grade students, the book can be used to introduce newcomers and ESL students to the United States.
