Reviews

Grade 10 Up-The primary appeal of these titles is their numerous, colorful illustrations-photos, maps, lithographs, drawings, and so forth. Unfortunately, the texts are poorly organized, extremely complex, and difficult to understand, and they raise more questions than they answer. Some information is incomplete; other data is so narrowly focused that it presents a confusing and inaccurate picture. The books include glossaries and bibliographies, but the latter don't list readily available material. Paula Hartz's Shinto (1997) and Taoism (1992, both Facts On File) are vastly more accessible to, and appropriate for, teens.
