About the Author

Jana Nidiffer is Assistant Professor of Higher Education at the University of Michigan, the author of Pioneering Deans of Women: More than Wise and Pious Matrons, and the coauthor (with Arthur Levine) of Beating the Odds: How the Poor Get to College.

Carolyn Terry Bashaw is Professor of History at Le Moyne College and the author of “Stalwart Women”: A Historical Analysis of Deans of Women in the South.
