From Library Journal

While not an encyclopedia of stitches, this work offers embroiderers an illustrated course in design and technique. The "Design Your Own" section gives inspiration for adapting designs using a variety of methods. It explains and illustrates principles of color and good design and stresses free experimentation with texture, stitches, threads, and fabrics. "Embroidery Basics" shows detailed drawings of stitches for embroidery, applique, and quilting and introduces blackwork, smocking, drawn thread, and other forms. The final section, "Embroidery Design Collection," includes 46 patterns with instructions and photograph of finished item. Beginners and more experienced embroiderers will yearn for self-expression and break away from their dependency on kits. For public libraries. Judith Yankielun Lind, Free P.L., Berkeley Heights, N.J.
