In just three hours, The Career Coach runs the gamut from finding, to keeping and then losing a job. Kleiman reviews the basics of resumes, interviews and applications, making the program suitable for first-time job hunters or those re-entering the market. The employed receive advice on how to climb the corporate ladder, as well as appropriate counsel for when the rungs give way. Dozens of relevant topics are touched, but few are fully developed, and most require further study. The wide range of material might be better presented in print, but this tape can be useful--just be sure to keep a pad, pencil and the "pause" key handy. D.L.G. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
Journalist Kleiman's advice is sound, practical, and laced with humor as she guides the reader in staving off "bad job days." Her coaching covers almost every aspect of an individual's career. Thrown an illegal interview question? Dance around it graciously. Handed an employment contract? Get a legal eagle to review it first (but you'll have to put your name on the dotted line). Faced with the big bad boss? Don't react or show anger--though well-placed humor might help. And so on. Plus, if readers are tired of going through "yet another" career hints book, Kleiman's "coach's tips," printed strategically in front of each different point of discussion, can easily be skimmed.
