Synopsis
To the ordinary reader, Revelation is a very difficult book; it belongs to an apocalyptical literature to which the occidental mind is unaccustomed. It is far removed from our tastes and styles. The complexity of the visions becomes confusing and the meaning of its symbolism is not readily apprehended by those who have not gone deeply into the subject. We hope to make it both clear and interesting, and practical as well; for there is no book of the Holy Scripture however abstruse in thought, or mystical in meaning, or symbolic in presentation that has not its practical and spiritual values for the present day Christian. This we will find to be true of Revelation. But what does it mean? Is it historical, prophetical, or both? Is it past or future? Has it been fulfilled, does it deal with the present day world events, or with things yet to come upon the stage of the world's affairs? How are these questions to be answered?

About the Author
Professor David S. Clark joined the Willamette faculty in January 2002. He is a frequent scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg and has held the Alexander von Humboldt and Max Planck Society research fellowships. Clark previously taught at the universities of Colorado, Houston, Louisiana State, and Tulsa. He was also the Inns of Court Fellow at Inner Temple in London (2000), the Fulbright Chair in Comparative Law at Trento University (1999), the Wing Tat Lee Chair in International and Comparative Law at Loyola University Chicago (1996), and the Dan Hopson Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law at Southern Illinois University (1987).
